SGL for business owners · Growth · Financial clarity · Funding · International expansion

Get to your next stage, with numbers lenders and investors will back.

Growth needs a plan, and usually capital. SGL works alongside your accountant: the CPA reports what happened; SGL builds what comes next. The forecast, the margin view, the growth case, the plan for new markets, and the company’s readiness for funding, whether that means bank or alternative debt, an equity raise, or a mix of both. For owner-led companies ready for their next stage, at home or abroad.

Before your next stage

Seven self-assessment questions.

  1. Can you say in one sentence where the business goes next, and how it pays for it?
  2. Do your management accounts tie to your financial statements?
  3. Can you show margin by business line or product?
  4. Is the shareholder account explained and reconciled?
  5. Is your A/R and A/P aging current, and do you know what is past due, and why?
  6. Do you know your cash position 13 weeks out?
  7. Do you know your covenant headroom today, and after the new loan?

Two “no” answers, and something is off. Manufacturing, construction, services, agri-food, real estate, technology and others.

How the work runs

In stages, each with a test.

  1. Diagnostic

Where the business is and where it can go: the numbers, the people, the lender obligations; a written roadmap.

Done when you have a trusted baseline and an agreed plan.

  2. Growth plan and funding

The model, the growth case and the funding package, built on reconciled numbers; support through the lender process; for an equity raise, the company is prepared for the investor conversation, which it leads directly.

Done when the package is with the funders and every question is answered.

  3. Ongoing CFO support

Reporting, milestones and targets, and the plan tracked against actuals, on a fixed cadence, about a day a week.

Done when your team runs it without SGL, or at the agreed end date.

What you keep: the financial model, the pro forma, the reporting routine and the lender relationship stay with the company, with no lock-in.

A typical engagement

From a weak balance sheet to a file any funder can read.

An owner-led Canadian company needed funding for its next stage, on a weak balance sheet.

Result: funding readiness. A file that answers a funder’s questions before they are asked, ready to present in parallel to banks, alternative lenders and investors.

  • Projections linked to operating metrics
  • Margin by product tied to the P&L; receivables tied out, with a weekly past-due routine
  • Credit-bureau and registry questions closed before any funder asked
  • One data room, one tracker per funder, one voice
